The government of Pakistan has initiated a program to provide cash assistance to poor women in the country. However, there have been reports of male family members taking the cash from these women.
As a result, the women are advocating for the cash to be distributed through digital wallets to ensure that they receive and have control over the funds. Muhammad Aurangzeb, in a recent statement, expressed confidence in the government’s economic improvement initiatives.
He pointed out the increase in tax collection and a reduction in the current account deficit as signs of progress. Pakistan has been considering the creation of its own digital currency for some time, exploring various potential uses for a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC).
However, no specific timeline for this initiative has been disclosed to date.
