Telegram founder praises privacy in cryptocurrency, expresses concerns about future of secure hardware.

The Telegram CEO, Pavel Durov, commented on the crypto market’s ability to address security concerns by mentioning hardware crypto wallets as a solution for storing cryptocurrency. He expressed optimism about the potential for similar secure hardware communication devices to be developed for messaging and voice calls.

Durov also discussed Telegram’s involvement in The Open Network, a crypto venture that faced opposition from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in 2019. He acknowledged raising outside funding through bonds and a cryptocurrency project, highlighting the SEC’s allegations regarding the company’s initial coin offering (ICO) violating securities laws.

Despite the SEC’s ban on the sale of Gram tokens to investors, Telegram’s blockchain venture continued with support from blockchain enthusiasts. The hour-long video containing these insights also delved into Durov’s decision to relocate Telegram’s offices to Dubai and an incident involving an attempted robbery after his meeting with then Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey in San Francisco.
