Scammers aim at Toncoin investors as TON interest grows

Since November 2023, there has been an increase in scams targeting Toncoin holders due to the growing interest and investments in TON. The attackers have been promoting a sophisticated referral scheme to fraudulently obtain TON tokens from users. The victims are coerced into purchasing “boosters” through a bot, as scammers claim that this action is necessary to start earning money.

However, buying a booster results in the user giving up control over their cryptocurrency. The scammers lure users with promises of earnings from both a flat payment of 25 TON for each referred friend and a commission based on the booster rate purchased by referrals. According to Kaspersky, users have lost between $2 and $2,700 to these scams.

In the meantime, TON’s prices have seen a 10% increase each month, largely attributed to various initiatives involving the Telegram messenger.
